P3 Permaculture is a social enterprise that promotes appropriate ecological and social solutions to the collective challenges of today. We are both a permaculture design firm and a school. We believe in high quality and accessible education. Since 2009 our courses have inspired hundreds of students from all ages and all walks of life. Our design team works with farmers, homeowners, and even business owners to incorporate sustainable practices onto their sites.
Permaculture is a design process rooted in the observation of nature. Its goal is to design systems and strategies that are holistic, self-sufficient, and ethical, to help us overcome the environmental and social crises we face today. Systems designed with permaculture take into account all aspects of our lives: ecological, social, and economic.
The Ethics of Permaculture
Care for the Earth
Encouraging all ecosystems to regenerate, thrive, and return to balance.
Care for Others
Caring for our communities; seeking compassionate, just, and equitable relationships.
The equitable redistribution of surplus within ecological and social systems.
We strive to turn the ethics of permaculture action on the ground in all that we do, whether that be designing systems to provide an abundance of healthy food, helping students access information, or providing meaningful employment opportunities. To us, permaculture means:
Abundance: Solutions that promote good food, healthy lifestyles, happiness, leisure, and resilience.
Legacy: Creating lasting solutions that honour observations from nature, indigenous, intergenerational, and intercultural knowledge.
Community: Establishing supportive networks of people and organizations.
Accessibility:Permaculture interventions should be simple, practical, affordable, and attractive.
Knowledge Sharing: Encouraging dynamic and diverse knowledge exchange - traditional, innovative, intergenerational, intercultural, sustainable practices, skill sharing, and beyond.
Supporting Entrepreneurship: Creating an ecosystem of enterprises that support and share resources, while providing opportunities for mutual development and growth.
Healthy Choices: Sharing information on, and increasing access to, healthy food, meaningful employment, and enriching lifestyles. Happiness: Having fun! Increasing positive and fulfilling experiences in all aspects of life.
